1987 Mercedes-Benz 560SL Joins DFW Car & Toy Museum Collection

The DFW Car & Toy Museum has added a 1987 Mercedes-Benz 560SL to its Ron Sturgeon Collection, showcasing a well-preserved example of the iconic V8 roadster with only 12,000 original miles. The vehicle, finished in red, represents the pinnacle of the R107 chassis, which was produced from 1971 to 1989 and is celebrated for its robust build quality and timeless design.

Under the hood, the 560SL features a 5.5-liter V8 engine producing 227 horsepower and 279 lb-ft of torque, paired with a four-speed automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential. The car's driving experience is enhanced by power steering, a fully independent suspension, and power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes, ensuring both comfort and capability on the road.

The interior has been preserved as a time capsule of late-1980s luxury, featuring automatic climate control, cruise control, electric windows, central locking, and a period-correct Carphone. The cabin is dominated by a factory Becker stereo and VDO instrumentation, with a leather-wrapped four-spoke steering wheel framing a 170-mph speedometer and gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel economy, and fuel level.

Ron Sturgeon, owner of the DFW Car & Toy Museum, emphasized the vehicle's appeal: "This 560SL is the definition of a classic you can still drive and enjoy. It has the comfort, presence, and understated power that makes the SL timeless—and with just 12,000 miles, it feels practically new."

The 560SL was offered exclusively in the North American market from 1986 to 1989 and is considered the most powerful and refined variant of the R107 series. Its combination of balanced performance, luxurious amenities, and enduring design has made it a sought-after collector's item. The DFW Car & Toy Museum, formerly known as DFW Elite Toy Museum, is located at 2550 McMillan Parkway in Fort Worth, Texas, and offers free admission and parking. Visitors can explore the museum's collection of classic cars and toys Tuesday through Saturday from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. More information is available on the museum's website at dfwcarandtoymuseum.com.
