Angkor Resources Corp. (TSXV: ANK) announced on October 6, 2025, that its subsidiary EnerCam Resources Co. Ltd. has reviewed preliminary data from the 2-D seismic program on Block VIII in Cambodia, identifying a substantial anticline structure named the South Bokor Lead. This structure, located in the South Bokor Basin, exhibits approximately 48 square kilometers of closure at depths between 900 and 1500 meters, making it the first drill target identified from the seismic program.
The South Bokor Lead is an anticline, a common geological trap for oil and gas, formed by compressional forces creating an arch-like structure where hydrocarbons can accumulate. However, an impermeable cap rock is required to trap the fluids, a factor that can only be confirmed through drilling. The company emphasized that this discovery is preliminary, with further data processing and interpretation expected to continue through November.
The seismic program, which covered the first of four subbasins on Block VIII, employed 38 Khmer residents and 15 contractors from Thailand using EnviroSeis equipment. Remaining data from other areas is anticipated by late October, with ongoing interpretation to follow. Mike Weeks, President of EnerCam, noted that proving commercial oil and gas in Cambodia begins with seismic data to determine drill targets, and this anticline with four-way closure provides a foundation for a robust program.
Geologist Justin Snelling explained that preliminary seismic reflections suggest a thick sealing mudstone band above the structure, with discontinuous, high-amplitude reflections within the anticline indicating potential reservoir rock. He cautioned that until drilling occurs and petrophysical data is gathered, the composition and potential value of any trapped hydrocarbons remain unknown.
Cambodia currently imports all its hydrocarbon-based energy products, spending billions of dollars annually (source). The mission of EnerCam is to discover the country's first commercial onshore oil and gas, reducing this dependency. The company holds an onshore oil and gas license for Block VIII, covering approximately 4,270 square kilometers in southwest Cambodia.
Angkor Resources Corp. is a leading resource optimizer in Cambodia, with mineral and energy projects in Cambodia and Canada. Its subsidiary EnerCam Resources is focused on oil and gas exploration in Cambodia, while its Canadian operations involve gas/carbon capture and production in Saskatchewan. The company remains committed to environmental and social projects, including a carbon capture and gas conservation project in Canada.
Additional processing and interpretation across all 24 seismic lines are ongoing, with the goal of planning a multi-hole exploratory drill program for next year pending scientific validation. The company cautions that forward-looking statements involve risks and uncertainties, and actual results may differ.
