Angkor Resources Corp. (TSXV: ANK) announced on December 4, 2025, that data processing from its 2D seismic program has identified Mussel Basin as a fourth target for exploratory drilling on the Block VIII oil and gas license in Cambodia. This new target, located on the northeast portion of the block, is a rift fault bounded basin of likely Cenozoic age (within the last 66 million years), differing significantly from the previously identified anticline structures in South Bokor, Central Bokor, and North Bokor on the west half of the license.
Keith Edwards, Geophysicist for EnerCam, Angkor's energy subsidiary, noted two key advantages of Mussel Basin. First, the drilling targets are expected to be shallower, which could reduce exploration costs and technical complexity. Second, the reservoir porosity may be higher due to less compaction, potentially improving the quality of hydrocarbon reservoirs. The team is currently reviewing the data for stratigraphic traps, such as reservoirs that pinch out against a sealing rock or porous channel sand encased in impermeable shale.
The company anticipates completing a full seismic interpretation in December, followed by prioritization of drill targets. Meanwhile, reprocessing of specific data areas continues to remove 'noise' for better resolution, which will help verify unconformities and more clearly define targets for drilling. The 350-line kilometer 2D seismic program over Block VIII was completed at the end of September, with processing and interpretation ongoing since then.
Angkor Resources Corp. is a leading resource optimizer in Cambodia, with operations in oil and gas, minerals, and carbon capture. Its Cambodian energy subsidiary, EnerCam Resources, holds the onshore Block VIII license covering approximately 4,095 square kilometers after removing parks and protected areas. The company also has oil and gas production in Saskatchewan, Canada, through its subsidiary EnerCam Exploration Ltd., and holds two mineral exploration licenses in Cambodia through Angkor Gold Corp. Further details are available on the company's website at angkorresources.com.
The identification of Mussel Basin adds a new dimension to the exploration potential of Block VIII, as it is structurally distinct from the previously identified Bokor basins. This could diversify the company's prospect portfolio and reduce geological risk. The shallower targets and potentially higher porosity reservoirs may also accelerate the timeline to drilling and production, should commercial quantities of oil or gas be discovered.
