Community Rallies to Support Residents Displaced by Apartment Fire in Goldsboro

On August 31, a fire devastated Adair Place Apartments in Goldsboro, NC, displacing 50 residents and leaving many without belongings. CAHEC, the community development organization that owns the property, activated its Disaster Relief Initiative to coordinate support. Through partnerships with Remnant Management, Centrant Community Capital, First Bank, and individual donors, CAHEC distributed gift cards to help families purchase essential items, nearly tripling its initial contribution to the property.

Local organizations and businesses also stepped in. A church offered temporary housing, while others donated food, clothing, school supplies, and other necessities. Teresa Narron, Director of Operations for Pendergraph Management, noted the community's generosity has been crucial for families starting over. Stefanie Lee, CAHEC's Community Relations Manager, emphasized the organization's commitment to resident well-being during crises.

CAHEC operates affordable housing and supportive service initiatives across the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic, engaging in low-income housing tax credits, historic tax credits, new markets tax credits, and renewable energy credits. The organization also offers loan programs, wellness and education initiatives, and property management services. For more information, visit CAHEC's website.
