The Goldie Initiative, a nonprofit dedicated to advancing women in commercial real estate (CRE) through scholarships, mentoring, and networking, will host its 9th Annual Goldie Gala on September 18, 2025, at Union Station in Chicago. Katie Kazas, Board President of The Goldie Initiative and Managing Director of Capital Markets at Longfellow Real Estate Partners, emphasized the event's significance in a recent Q&A.
“The Goldie Gala brings together top leaders, rising stars, and influential voices across the CRE landscape,” Kazas said. “It’s a one-of-a-kind opportunity to network with industry changemakers while directly supporting the next generation of women leaders.” Proceeds from the gala fund scholarships for high-potential women pursuing graduate studies in business, law, design, or management with a focus on real estate, known as Goldie Scholars.
Since its founding in 2007, The Goldie Initiative has supported over 200 alumnae who now hold leadership roles across the industry. Kazas noted that the program’s multifaceted approach—combining financial support, mentoring, and professional development—cultivates a pipeline of qualified women prepared to lead in CRE. “Former Goldie Scholars are now thriving in leadership, innovation, and community-building roles, contributing to the overall advancement of the sector,” she said.
The gala will honor Kim Adams of Clarion Partners with the Shero Award, recognizing senior women in CRE who exemplify success and mentorship. It will also introduce the largest-ever cohort of 40 Goldie Scholars and welcome back the inaugural class from 2007. “It’s truly a night that celebrates the best of CRE—past, present, and future,” Kazas added.
Mentorship is a cornerstone of the program, with each scholar paired with a senior real estate professional. The Goldie Initiative partners with the Center for Mentoring Excellence to apply best practices. “Mentorship accelerates professional development, enhances confidence, and offers critical insights,” Kazas explained.
Kazas, who is concluding her tenure as Board President, highlighted the initiative’s expansion into the Northeast U.S. and its growing sponsor base—over 200 sponsors this year, helping to nearly reach a $1.2 million fundraising goal. “I hope to be remembered as a connector who helped bring the right people together to champion the mission,” she said.
