Infrastructure Capital (ICA) announced the launch of the Infrastructure Capital Nasdaq Option Income ETF (QVOL) on the Nasdaq exchange. The fund aims to provide investors with high monthly income and capital appreciation through an active strategy that combines equity selection from the Nasdaq Composite Index with dynamic option writing. This marks ICA's first ETF listed on Nasdaq, expanding its lineup of income-focused funds.
QVOL seeks to address the tradeoff between yield and capital appreciation by actively managing both its equity portfolio and option activity. Unlike competitor buy-write or systematic option overlay strategies, ICA will dynamically write options on individual Nasdaq equities or indexes, focusing on companies it deems overvalued. The fund uses short-duration options to limit the upside cap from option writing, allowing greater participation in market gains. The option strategies are designed to generate high income by seeking annual premiums from option writing.
The fund's equity allocations are flexible across the Nasdaq Composite Index, which includes a broad range of technology-related companies. Due to the high correlation between the Nasdaq Composite and the Nasdaq-100, QVOL provides exposure to major tech companies like the Magnificent Seven (Alphabet, Amazon, Apple, Meta, Microsoft, Nvidia, and Tesla) while offering more investment opportunities. ICA's active management approach uses quantitative, qualitative, and relative valuation factors to select investments, favoring companies with favorable relative valuations, such as lower price-to-book or higher profitability compared to their index peers.
Key factors considered include price-to-earnings and price-to-cash flow ratios, enterprise values, and operating metrics. The investment philosophy emphasizes discipline, consistency, and risk management, with sell decisions based on excessive valuation, better opportunities, or changes in fundamentals. QVOL is part of ICA's ETF lineup, which includes funds like the Infrastructure Capital Bond Income ETF (BNDS) and the InfraCap MLP ETF (AMZA).
Jay Hatfield, lead portfolio manager, brings over 30 years of experience. As of the launch date, ICA manages over $3.5 billion in assets. The firm, based in New York City and registered with the SEC, focuses on total-return opportunities in infrastructure sectors such as energy, real estate, and utilities. QVOL is distributed by Quasar Distributors, LLC. For more information, visit https://www.infracapfunds.com.
