The NAACP Chicago Westside Branch has announced its 2025 Freedom Fund Concert Fundraiser, scheduled for Saturday, September 20, 2025, at the Kehrein Center for the Arts, 5628 West Washington Blvd, Chicago, IL 60644. This marks the branch's first Freedom Fund celebration in seven years and will feature headline performances by Terisa Griffin and the Hiplet Ballerinas, according to a press release.
The event, themed "The Fierce Urgency of Now: Reignite! Rebuild! Recommit!" aims to galvanize support for civil rights, economic justice, and equity on Chicago's West Side. "We are witnessing unprecedented rollbacks in funding, civil rights, and policies that directly impact our communities—the need for strong advocacy and action has never been more urgent," the release stated.
Terisa Griffin, known for her powerful voice and soulful presence, will headline the concert, alongside a special performance by the world-renowned Hiplet Ballerinas. The evening will also honor community leaders Vera G. Davis, Nathaniel Gaither, Angela Taylor, and Schanel "Princess" Shaw for their contributions to civil rights, youth empowerment, and community advocacy.
Event details include a VIP Reception from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM, doors opening at 6:30 PM, and the concert beginning at 8:00 PM.
