NeuroOne Medical Technologies Corporation (Nasdaq: NMTC) announced a collaboration with Mayo Clinic to support a newly funded research program evaluating a novel treatment approach for pediatric diffuse midline glioma (DMG), an aggressive childhood brain cancer. The program is supported by a grant from the Children's Cancer Research Fund (CCRF) awarded to Mayo Clinic investigators Dr. David Daniels and Dr. Liang Zhang.
The research aims to address the challenge of maintaining therapeutic drug concentrations within brain tumors. While convection-enhanced delivery (CED) bypasses the blood-brain barrier, rapid drug clearance limits effectiveness. The Mayo Clinic team will evaluate a combination therapy to modulate drug efflux mechanisms, enhancing intratumoral drug retention. The study begins with large animal models and may expand to human trials.
NeuroOne's investigational drug delivery neural device technology will be used, combining precision intracranial drug delivery with simultaneous neural recording. This integrated approach allows targeted therapy and real-time physiologic monitoring, offering insights into drug delivery and neural effects. The CCRF award is a milestone toward clinical evaluation, expanding NeuroOne's drug delivery initiatives and reflecting interest from academic investigators and biopharmaceutical companies.
