D1 Training, a fitness enrichment concept grounded in athletic-based training, will open a new location in Rancho Santa Margarita at 29851 Aventura on October 25. The facility employs a sports-science backed regimen led by certified trainers to help individuals of all ages pursue sport and fitness goals.
Giang Ma and Merrick Miranda, longtime friends and former chemical engineers, are the franchisees behind the new location. Both transitioned from careers in the oil and gas industry, with Giang moving into pharmaceuticals and Merrick into business development and sales in construction. As parents of young athletes, they were drawn to D1’s structured, goal-oriented training model and its focus on character building through athletics. “We see D1 as a place where hard work meets purpose,” said Merrick. “It’s not just about physical training—it’s about helping people push past limits, stay accountable, and become the best version of themselves.”
D1 Training offers four age-based programs: Rookie (ages 7-11), Developmental (ages 12-14), Prep (ages 15-18), and D1 Adult. Each program is built on five tenets: dynamic warm-up, performance, strength program, core and conditioning, and cool down. Outside group workouts, the facility provides group, semi-private, and one-on-one training. The goal is to train athletes dedicated to their sport or fitness goals, regardless of age or background.
The grand opening event on Saturday, October 25, invites neighbors and residents to meet the team. The new location joins a roster of franchisees that includes professional athletes like Kylie Fitts and Jordan Gay, with partners such as NBA star Chris Paul and Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow. Dan Murphy, D1 Training’s Chief Operating Officer, stated, “Giang and Merrick are the ideal candidates to bring the D1 Training experience to Rancho Santa Margarita. We’re thrilled to welcome them to the D1 family and are confident in their ability to show the area what they’ve been missing out on.”
With over 100 performance centers open and more than 100 additional locations in development, D1 Training continues to expand through franchising. The brand seeks financially qualified business builders, former athletes, and entrepreneurs passionate about fitness and youth sports.
