Pet Supplies Plus and Wag N’ Wash announced they have facilitated 19,303 successful pet adoptions year-to-date in 2025, nearing their goal of 20,000 adoptions for the year. The milestone builds on a 2024 initiative that surpassed a 15,000-adoption target, reinforcing the brands’ commitment to animal welfare through partnerships with local rescues and in-store adoption events. The announcement comes amid a challenging environment for shelter animals, with approximately 2.8 million dogs and cats entering U.S. shelters in the first half of 2025, according to the Shelter Animals Count National Database.

The data from Shelter Animals Count highlights the ongoing crisis: about 366,000 shelter animals had a non-live outcome, including euthanasia, between January and June 2025. Dog and cat adoptions have slightly decreased compared to the same period in 2024, and fewer adult and senior dogs are being adopted, though juvenile dog adoption rates are rising. The length of stay for dogs of all sizes increased in 2024, underscoring the need for continued awareness and education. Pet Supplies Plus and Wag N’ Wash are working to make adoptions more accessible and visible in communities nationwide.
In support of its commitment, Pet Supplies Plus launched an inaugural Shelter Shoutout Series, spotlighting local rescue shelters, store teams, and community members. The bi-monthly effort includes food donations in partnership with Hill’s Science Diet and has taken place in Western Michigan, Chicago, and Jacksonville, Florida, with upcoming events in Austin, Texas, and Charleston, South Carolina. As the brands’ combined store count grows rapidly, they aim to make a significant impact on pet welfare through these initiatives.
