The Japan-America Society of Dallas/Fort Worth (JASDFW) has announced that Texas Governor Greg Abbott will receive the Sun & Star Legacy Award at its 28th annual dinner on April 15, 2026. The event, to be held at the Irving Convention Center, honors individuals who have significantly advanced the relationship between Japan and Texas.
According to the release, Governor Abbott's leadership has made Texas one of Japan's strongest partners in the United States for trade, innovation, and investment. Under his tenure, Texas established strategic agreements with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and Aichi Prefecture, home to Toyota's global headquarters. Today, hundreds of Japanese-owned businesses operate in Texas, underscoring the state's role in U.S.-Japan collaboration.
Lawrence P. Howorth, Chair of JASDFW's Board of Directors, stated, "The Sun & Star Legacy Award Dinner exemplifies how partnerships between Texas and Japan continue to shape our future. We are honored to recognize Governor Abbott for his leadership and commitment to strengthening this relationship." The dinner serves as a platform for building friendships, fostering business collaboration, and celebrating shared values of innovation, respect, and community.
The annual gala attracts top executives from business, government, and diplomatic communities. Attendees can expect a VIP reception, gourmet dinner, silent auction, and networking opportunities with influential figures from both nations. The silent auction will feature curated travel experiences, designer jewelry, fine dining packages, and exclusive sports and golf offerings.
Proceeds from the event support JASDFW's educational, cultural, and business exchange programs across North Texas. Sponsorships and table reservations are now open. Interested parties can receive updates or express early interest by clicking here.
The Sun & Star Legacy Award is JASDFW's highest honor, presented annually to recognize outstanding contributions to Japan-U.S. relations. The 2026 award underscores Governor Abbott's role in fostering economic diplomacy and cultural exchange between Texas and Japan.
