Trilogy Metals Advances Arctic Project with Federal Permitting Application

Trilogy Metals Inc. (NYSE American: TMQ) (TSX: TMQ) announced that its 50/50 joint venture, Ambler Metals LLC, has taken a significant step forward by submitting a Clean Water Act Section 404 application to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, initiating federal permitting for the Arctic Project in Alaska's Ambler Mining District. This high-grade copper project, with an average grade of approximately 5% copper equivalent, is also expected to pursue FAST-41 program coverage to streamline permitting timelines as the company advances engineering, environmental work, and field activities in support of a future investment decision.

The permitting milestone is crucial for the Arctic Project, which is part of the Upper Kobuk Mineral Projects (UKMP) in northwestern Alaska. The UKMP is located within the Ambler Mining District, recognized as one of the richest and most prospective copper-dominant districts globally. It hosts polymetallic volcanogenic massive sulfide (VMS) deposits containing copper, zinc, lead, gold, and silver, as well as carbonate replacement deposits with high-grade copper and cobalt mineralization. The district's potential is underscored by two primary deposits: the Arctic VMS deposit and the Bornite carbonate replacement deposit, both situated within a land package spanning approximately 190,929 hectares.

The joint venture with South32, a globally diversified mining and metals company that exercised its option to form a 50/50 partnership in December 2019, provides Trilogy Metals with a strong financial and operational foundation. Ambler Metals has also secured an agreement with NANA Regional Corporation, Inc., an Alaska Native Corporation, which provides a framework for exploration and potential development in cooperation with local communities. This collaboration is designed to protect and respect subsistence livelihoods while advancing mineral development.

The initiation of federal permitting marks a key advancement for the project, which has been the focus of extensive exploration and engineering efforts. The Clean Water Act Section 404 application is a critical regulatory hurdle, and the pursuit of FAST-41 program coverage could accelerate the permitting process, potentially reducing timelines and uncertainties. These developments are essential for Trilogy Metals' vision to develop the Ambler Mining District into a premier North American copper producer.
