36th Hong Kong Book Fair to Spotlight Cultural Heritage and Travel Literature, Running Alongside Sports and Snack Expos

The 36th Hong Kong Book Fair, organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), is set to take place from 15 to 21 July at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Running concurrently with the Hong Kong Sports and Leisure Expo and the World of Snacks, the three fairs will bring together over 770 exhibitors from nearly 30 countries and regions. This year's theme, 'Cultural Legacy | Joyful Journeys', aims to inspire readers to explore cultural heritage and innovation through reading and travel. The fairs are expected to attract a wide audience, offering a one-stop destination for culture, sports, and leisure activities.

Jenny Koo, HKTDC Deputy Executive Director, highlighted that the theme encourages readers to delve into traditional culture and its modern interpretations. She noted that the HKTDC, celebrating its 60th anniversary, will feature a collaborative artwork by Chairman Professor Frederick Ma and artist Jane Lee, alongside more than 100 students, depicting Hong Kong's transformation. The Book Fair will host over 600 cultural events, including seminars with renowned writers such as Liu Zhenyun, Su Tong, Bi Feiyu, and Luke Kennard. The 'World of Art & Culture' zone will showcase the 'World in Words, A Voyage of the Heart' exhibition, featuring over 200 books and items from around the world, with interactive setups recommending books and travel itineraries.

The Book Fair includes eight seminar series, covering themes from renowned writers to English and international books. For the first time, the ASEAN Literary Festival will be introduced under the English and International Books Seminar Series, fostering cultural exchange with ASEAN countries. Other notable speakers include aerospace experts such as Professor Wu Bo from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, who will discuss national space missions. The event also features the 'International Publishing Forum' and 'IP Roundtable' for industry professionals.

Diverse thematic zones, including the Cultural and Creative Space and Chinese Mainland Publishers, will showcase intangible cultural heritage crafts and publications. The Hong Kong Jockey Club will set up a themed exhibition area promoting healthy lifestyles. Community initiatives, such as Sino Group's 'Joyful Reading Lucky Rewards' campaign and Sun Hung Kai Properties' 'Read to Dream' program, aim to promote reading among underprivileged families.

The Hong Kong Sports and Leisure Expo will offer sports experiences and edutainment, including the 'Fit & Fearless Challenge' and interactive animal encounters. The World of Snacks will feature over 1,300 snacks from nearly 30 countries, highlighting local and innovative healthy options. A single ticket grants access to all three events, with adult tickets priced at HK$30 and various concessions available.
