ADAP Advocacy has released a new digital commercial as part of its ongoing 340B Project, amplifying calls for reform of the 340B Drug Pricing Program. The commercial reinforces the message of the organization's earlier policy paper, titled "340B PROGRAM: The Glue That Should Hold Our Healthcare System Together." The commercial will air across numerous digital and social platforms, continuing ADAP Advocacy's '340B Too Big To Fail' national advocacy campaign.
The 340B Program, which requires drug manufacturers to provide discounted medications to certain healthcare providers, serves as a critical backbone for services such as HIV care nationwide. However, ADAP Advocacy argues that the program's size and importance demand stronger accountability and transparency guardrails to ensure it benefits its intended recipients: patients. The organization points to a growing medical debt crisis, much of it owed to hospitals, as evidence that the program is not delivering on its promise of expanding affordable healthcare.
Brandon M. Macsata, CEO of ADAP Advocacy, stated, "The debate surrounding whether to reform the 340B Program has largely been settled, thanks to the growing chorus recognizing the program isn't living up to the legislative intent. For patients, it is failing to deliver on its promise of expanding affordable healthcare, as shown by the growing medical debt crisis in this country, much of it owed to hospitals. Our new digital commercial moves the debate forward as Congress debates 340B legislation."
The commercial highlights hospitals' declining charity care, rising executive compensation, and exploding patient medical debt. It is available online at https://tinyurl.com/bdea39d2. This push for reform comes at a pivotal moment as lawmakers consider changes to the 340B Program. ADAP Advocacy's campaign seeks to ensure that the program fulfills its original purpose of expanding healthcare access, particularly for vulnerable populations such as people living with HIV/AIDS.
By taking its message directly to the public through digital advertising, ADAP Advocacy aims to build pressure on policymakers to enact reforms that prioritize patient interests over institutional profits. The commercial and accompanying policy paper serve as a call to action for greater oversight, ensuring that the 340B Program truly holds the healthcare system together for those who need it most.
