Alamo Promenade Grand Opening Connects Texas Heritage to San Antonio's Future

The Alamo will celebrate the grand opening of the Alamo Promenade on Friday, November 21, at 11 a.m. on Plaza de Valero, the public greenspace in front of the historic Menger Hotel. The event, called "Happy Trails," will transform a traditional street into a pedestrian-friendly walkway, creating a sense of arrival from Commerce Street onto the historic site. The Promenade features statues honoring key historical figures and shaded seating areas, leading toward the nearby Briscoe Western Art Museum, forging a powerful connection between two cultural destinations.

Speakers at the event will include Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick and Alamo Trust, Inc., President and CEO Hope Andrade, who will cut the ribbon on a new chapter of the Alamo's 300-year history. The celebration also marks the culmination of the Alamo Statewide Stampede, a fundraising challenge issued earlier this year that encouraged all Texans to preserve Texas history by giving back to the Alamo. The winning counties will be announced during the event, with the competition judged on a per capita basis so even the smallest county can win.

The Alamo Promenade project exemplifies the ongoing work to honor the past while shaping a more connected, vibrant, and forward-looking Texas. As the #1 most visited destination in Texas, with more than 1.6 million visitors each year, the Alamo stands as the Shrine of Texas Liberty. The 300-year history of the Alamo is world-renowned and represents the core of Texas' identity today. In 1960, the Alamo was designated a United States National Historic Landmark, and in 2015, it became part of the Lone Star State's only UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Building Texas Show, a statewide platform dedicated to telling the stories of Texas communities, is a proud supporter of the Alamo Promenade project. The project strengthens the bridge between Texas heritage and the future of San Antonio and the state as a whole. The Alamo Trust, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, oversees the daily operations at the Alamo and the implementation of the Alamo Plan.
