Aspen Healthcare has been named Best of Denton County 2026 in both the Home Health and Hospice categories, marking the sixth year the North Texas healthcare organization has earned recognition in the annual community awards. The award, determined by resident nominations and votes, highlights the organization's sustained commitment to community-based care in a region experiencing significant growth.
Denton County's population has surged to over 1.06 million, an increase of approximately 18% since 2020, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. This growth has intensified competition among home-based healthcare providers, with more than 200 Medicare-certified home health or hospice agencies located within 25 miles of Denton. Against this backdrop, repeated recognition by residents distinguishes providers that have established a lasting presence.
CEO Sukhu George attributes the organization's continued success to its expansion of services delivered in the home, particularly its growing palliative care program. "Palliative care is helping us reach patients who need more support at home but may not be ready for hospice," George said. "A patient can still be pursuing curative treatment, or the prognosis may simply be uncertain. We can send experienced clinicians, including prescribers such as nurse practitioners, into the home to help manage difficult symptoms and coordinate care."
Unlike hospice, palliative care can be introduced at any stage of a serious illness and provided alongside curative treatment. It focuses on symptom relief and quality of life, filling a critical gap between traditional medical visits, home health, and hospice. This service complements Aspen's established programs, which include medical home health, hospice, and home care. Home health provides skilled nursing and rehabilitation, while home care offers personal assistance for daily living. Hospice delivers interdisciplinary support when curative treatments are no longer the goal.
George emphasized the broader trend: "Healthcare keeps moving toward the home, and we intend to keep moving with it. Our goal is not just to offer more services. It is to make sure patients and families have the right kind of support at the right point in their journey."
Aspen Healthcare, founded in 2007 and headquartered in Lewisville, serves Dallas-Fort Worth, including Denton and Collin counties. It is Medicare-certified and CHAP-accredited, employing more than 200 home-health professionals. The organization provides a broad continuum of care, including in-home primary care, private-duty nursing, respiratory care, and veteran-centered services.
The Best of Denton County awards, established in 2004, recognize local businesses across more than 400 categories through community nominations and voting. Winners for 2026 were announced August 26.
