The Broker Action Coalition (BAC) and the National Association of Mortgage Brokers (NAMB) have announced a groundbreaking partnership to co-host their first-ever joint advocacy fly-in event this spring. Titled 'Advocacy in Action: Better Together,' the event will bring independent mortgage brokers from across the nation to Washington, D.C., from April 20-22, 2026. The announcement, made during NAMB Focus, represents a significant milestone for the broker community, embodying a unity message championed by Brendan McKay, Chief Advocacy Officer of BAC and owner of McKay Mortgage.
McKay’s advocacy leadership has transformed BAC from a startup into a proven force for change in Washington. 'Mortgage brokers told us three years ago when we founded the BAC that trigger lead legislation was the most important issue to them,' McKay explained in a recent interview. 'And three short years later, which is light speed in DC terms, the legislation has passed and that problem has been solved.' That track record of delivering results has positioned McKay as one of the most influential voices in broker advocacy, focusing on issues that directly impact brokers’ ability to serve homebuyers, particularly Veterans, minorities, and underserved communities.
The event reflects a philosophy that unity is essential for effective advocacy. 'In DC, we are united,' McKay emphasized. 'We do not care if you’re W-2 or 1099. We do not care if you are a true broker or if you’re a non-delegated correspondent, and we sure as s**t do not care which mortgage lenders you do or do not work with.' Rachel Clark, Executive Director of the BAC, added, 'Policy decisions are being made every day that directly impact brokers and the families we serve. By co-hosting this event with NAMB, we are creating a stronger, louder, and more effective voice for independent brokers. This is about showing up, building relationships, and making sure our industry is represented where it matters most on Capitol Hill.'
McKay noted that the partnership signals more than just goodwill. 'NAMB and the BAC coming together in this manner shows not just talk about unity in any division, but actual action towards it,' he said. 'In Washington, DC, being on the same page is so absolutely critical.' The joint fly-in will feature comprehensive policy briefings, issue-focused discussions, and direct meetings with members of Congress and their staff, equipping participants to drive meaningful policy change.
McKay’s message to the industry is clear: advocacy requires sustained financial support. 'Brokers are a “I’ll believe it when I see it” group,' he noted. 'Well, you’ve seen it. Trigger lead legislation was the most important thing to you. Done, proof of concept. The BAC is capable of properly fighting for and representing mortgage brokers in Washington, DC. And if you want it to continue, you need to step up and start paying for it.' With adequate resources, McKay sees potential to tackle state-level issues and expand lobbying capacity.
