Beauty & Bodywork Insurance (BBI) has released its 2025 Claims Report, providing an in-depth analysis of risks faced by beauty and bodywork professionals based on real insurance claims with 2025 dates of loss and a nationwide consumer survey. The report aims to help professionals understand operational hazards and the role of insurance in building client trust.
BBI reviewed claims from salons, spas, and independent practitioners including hairstylists, estheticians, nail technicians, lash artists, and massage therapists. Total payouts reached $929,187 in 2025, with a median claim of $2,500 and an average claim of $4,890. The vast majority of claims were under $10,000, but larger events, though less frequent, accounted for a significant portion of total payouts.
According to Daryle Stafford, CEO of Veracity Insurance, parent company of BBI, most claims stem from everyday operational issues rather than catastrophic events. Routine incidents occur more often than expected, and insurance helps professionals manage these situations without disrupting their business. Water damage emerged as the most common type of claim, followed by property-related incidents and service-related injuries. Fire-related incidents, while rare, resulted in disproportionately high payouts.
The report also includes findings from a national survey of 1,000 U.S. adults conducted in November 2024. Sixty-two percent of respondents stated they are more likely to book with a professional who carries liability insurance. Service quality, affordability, and provider credentials were also top considerations when choosing a salon, spa, or independent practitioner.
