BHS, Inc., a St. Louis-based manufacturer of custom material handling equipment, has announced a new line of modular attachments for order picker trucks, designed to optimize warehouse picking operations. The attachments, available in four series, aim to address the growing demand for efficient and safe order picking in narrow-aisle racking environments.
The product lineup includes Modular Order Picker Carts, which are equipped with heavy-duty casters to double as pushcarts for ground-level inventory management. Modular Order Picker Platforms omit the casters and function solely as attachments for order picker trucks. Additionally, Order Picker Furniture Carts and Order Picker Furniture Platforms are sized to fit the longer forks of furniture order picker trucks, providing tailored solutions for specific industry needs.
According to Trent Boothe, Technical Sales Manager at BHS, the growth of narrow-aisle racking has increased reliance on order picker trucks. "Our goal is to make those trucks safer, more productive, and flexible enough to handle anything," Boothe said. The attachments are custom-sized to eliminate gaps or offsets between the platform and the truck's operator deck, thereby removing tripping hazards—a significant safety risk associated with some order picker attachments.
A key feature of the BHS Modular Order Picker Carts and Platforms is their modularity. Users can adjust shelf spacing, remove shelves entirely, or add rails and guarding to create an ideal work platform. These bolt-on components are easily attached or removed with standard workplace tools, allowing for quick reconfiguration to suit different tasks. This modular design enables the carts and platforms to function like custom equipment without the typical delays of made-to-order solutions.
"We specialize in designing custom equipment, but it takes time to design something from scratch," Boothe explained. "Our modular solutions ship a lot faster than an all-original product. They give you custom performance without custom lead times." This approach is particularly beneficial for warehouses that require rapid adaptation to changing inventory or order profiles.
The introduction of these attachments comes as the material handling industry increasingly focuses on ergonomics and productivity. By providing a safe, customizable platform for order picking, BHS helps reduce worker fatigue and injury risk while improving efficiency. The modular design also supports future changes in warehouse layout or processes, offering long-term flexibility.
