Birmingham OB/Gyn has announced the development of the Birmingham OB/Gyn – Trussville Women's Health Center at The Pinnacle Shopping Center in Trussville, Alabama, aiming to expand access to comprehensive women's healthcare for one of the state's fastest-growing regions. The new center will serve as the practice's regional hub for eastern Jefferson, St. Clair, and Blount Counties, transitioning from a limited clinic schedule to a full-time operation offering appointments Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Friday from 8:00 a.m. until noon.
According to David Carmichael, Chief Executive Officer of Birmingham OB/Gyn, the project is about making it easier for women to receive comprehensive healthcare closer to home. The new location will add services such as screening mammography, dedicated ultrasound services, Non-Stress Testing (NST), expanded laboratory services, and increased appointment availability. By consolidating these services under one roof, patients can complete annual wellness visits, screening mammography, ultrasound, laboratory testing, and other preventive care during a single visit.
A key feature of the Trussville Women's Health Center is the addition of 3D screening mammography through a partnership with Onsite Women's Health. The center will also offer Mammo with heart, an AI-enabled program that identifies breast arterial calcifications (BAC) during routine mammograms, which can indicate cardiovascular disease risk. David Freedman, president and chief growth officer at Onsite, emphasized that bringing advanced screening and the Mammo with heart program directly into the practice makes it more convenient for women to prioritize both breast and heart health.
Women with significant BAC findings will be encouraged to follow up with their primary care physician or a cardiovascular specialist. Birmingham OB/Gyn is committed to collaborating with community physicians to ensure appropriate follow-up care. The practice continues its partnership with Grandview Medical Center, where its physicians will continue providing obstetrical care and delivering babies.
Melissa Walker, Director of the Trussville Area Chamber of Commerce, welcomed the investment, stating that the center brings vital, convenient services closer to home for women in Trussville and surrounding communities. Construction is expected to begin in the coming months, with a grand opening announcement to follow.
