Blue Faery: The Adrienne Wilson Liver Cancer Association will host a free, in-person HCC Lunch & Learn on October 24, 2026, at the University of Chicago Medicine. The event, designed in collaboration with liver cancer experts, seeks to address a critical gap in patient education by offering clear, trusted information about liver health, liver disease, and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) to patients, caregivers, and individuals at risk.
The importance of this event lies in its potential to directly impact outcomes. Hepatocellular carcinoma is the most common form of primary liver cancer, and many of its major risk factors are tied to chronic liver disease. By increasing awareness of these risks and helping people understand when screening and specialized care may be needed, Blue Faery aims to empower attendees to take proactive steps. "Knowledge can change outcomes—everyone deserves clear, trusted information and support when facing liver cancer," said Andrea Wilson Woods, Founder and President of Blue Faery. This philosophy underscores the event's mission to bridge the gap between diagnosis and informed action.
The HCC Lunch & Learn will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. (doors open at 9:30 a.m.) at the University of Chicago Medicine in the Knapp Center for Biomedical Discovery Auditorium. The free event includes a catered lunch and complimentary parking with validation, though attendees must bring their parking ticket inside for validation. Due to the serious nature of the topics discussed, attendees must be at least 16 years old, and each attendee must register separately. Space is limited, and advance registration is encouraged.
The agenda covers a range of essential topics: liver disease and HCC risk factors and symptoms; prevention and early detection of liver cancer; current treatment options for HCC; the importance of multidisciplinary care; and resources and support for patients and caregivers. This comprehensive approach reflects the complexity of liver cancer management and the need for patients to navigate multiple aspects of care.
For those unable to attend in person, Blue Faery offers ongoing support through its online Liver Cancer Community for patients and caregivers. Additionally, the organization provides free comprehensive patient education with its Patient Resource Guides for Liver Cancer. These resources ensure that individuals have access to vital information beyond the event itself.
Blue Faery's mission is to prevent, treat, and cure primary liver cancer through research, education, and advocacy. The HCC Lunch & Learn series is a key part of this mission, supporting efforts to improve liver cancer outcomes by equipping individuals with knowledge and support. As liver cancer incidence rises, such community-based education becomes increasingly vital. To learn more and register, visit https://www.bluefaery.org/hcc-lunch-learn.
