The City of Boerne is hosting a series of summer events that highlight the Texas Hill Country town's German and European heritage, offering visitors opportunities to engage with local culture through festivals, concerts, historic tours, and genealogy research. These events, running from June through July, aim to connect attendees with the traditions and stories that have shaped the community.
The third annual Das Festival of Kendall will take place Father's Day weekend, June 19-21, 2026, on downtown Boerne's Main Plaza. This free, three-day festival features live music, traditional food, craft vendors, and beer from four Hill Country breweries: Tusculum Brewing Company, Free Roam Brewing Company, 28 Songs Brewhouse + Kitchen, and Cibolo Creek Brewing Co. Family-friendly competitions include an officially sanctioned Beer Stein Holding Competition, with winners advancing to the state championship in New Braunfels. Other events include a Main Street Parade, Dachshund Races, and Das Pageant. Registration for these activities is available at DasFestival.org. The festival is a nonprofit event that gives back to other nonprofits in Kendall County.
The Boerne Village Band, recognized as the oldest continuously playing German band in the world outside of Germany, will perform free Abendkonzerte evening concerts on Main Plaza on June 16, June 30, and July 28. Established in 1860, the band preserves Boerne's German musical traditions. Concerts run from 7:30 pm to 9 pm, and attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets. Traditional dances include the Herr Schmidt, Kid's March, and Chicken Dance.
History enthusiasts can explore the Kuhlmann-King Historical Complex, a historic home dating to the 1880s, with guided tours on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of each month. The tours showcase the historic kitchen, original architecture, and interpretive markers that tell the story of German families who settled in the Texas Hill Country.
Visitors interested in genealogy can visit The Family History Place, a public library, bookstore, and research center operated by the Genealogical Society of Kendall County. It offers free access to databases including Ancestry.com, Fold3, My Heritage, Find My Past, and Newspaper Archives. Appointments can be made by calling ahead.
Boerne's summer events provide a reason for an overnight stay, with lodging options like The Bevy Hotel and The Kendall within walking distance of the Hill Country Mile. For more information, visit VisitBoerne.org.
