BOXABL Inc. (NASDAQ: BXBL), a factory-built construction company known for its foldable housing units, has introduced a new design study for modular enclosures intended to house AI and cloud computing infrastructure. The Server Pod concept, as detailed in a recent announcement, is not yet in production but serves to showcase BOXABL's factory capabilities and to attract potential partners from the data center sector.
The proposed configurations range from a compact 10-foot Server Pod, envisioned to support 0.5 petaflops, to a large 2,500-square-foot Server Tron, capable of 16 petaflops per second. However, these are preliminary figures, and actual specifications, engineering, cooling methods, and equipment would be determined in collaboration with customers.
BOXABL's move comes as the data center industry faces significant headwinds. According to JLL's 2026 Global Data Center Market Outlook, the sector is expected to grow at a 14% compound annual growth rate through 2030, with roughly 100 GW of new capacity coming online from 2026 through 2030. This expansion could require up to $3 trillion in total investment. The company believes that factory-built, repeatable structures could help mitigate the speed, cost, and labor challenges that are currently hampering data center development.
The announcement highlights BOXABL's intention to engage with data center developers, hyperscalers, colocation providers, and equipment manufacturers. The company is seeking contracts to design and manufacture custom modular structures, though it cautions that there is no assurance any agreements will be reached or that any Server Pod will be built.
This strategic pivot is significant for BOXABL, which has primarily focused on affordable housing since its inception in 2017. The company has raised over $230 million from more than 50,000 investors and recently began trading on Nasdaq under the ticker BXBL after completing a business combination with FG Merger II Corp. Its flagship product, the Casita, is a 361-square-foot studio that unfolds on-site in under an hour, and it also offers the smaller Baby Box and is developing stackable modules for larger residential projects.
By leveraging its expertise in factory-built construction, BOXABL could potentially disrupt the traditional data center construction model, which often suffers from project delays and cost overruns. If successful, the Server Pod concept could open a new revenue stream for the company and position it as a key player in the rapidly growing AI infrastructure market.
