Dr. Srivastava, who struggled to maintain breastfeeding after returning to work as a practicing gastroenterologist, understands these challenges firsthand. She emphasizes that some breast milk is better than none, and pumped breast milk remains highly beneficial. Combination feeding—mixing breast milk and formula—can be a practical solution for many families, and parents should not feel guilty if exclusive breastfeeding is not possible.
For those who turn to formula, modern infant formulas provide safe, complete nutrition. While they cannot fully replicate the complexity of human breast milk, newer products containing prebiotics, probiotics, or human milk prebiotics are designed to more closely support the developing microbiome.
