CFTC Approves tZERO Clearinghouse, Extending Tokenized Infrastructure Into Derivatives

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission has approved the registration of tZERO DCO, LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of tZERO Group, Inc., as a derivatives clearing organization. The approval, reported through NEWMEDIAWIRE, marks the opening of a new derivatives vertical for the company's Infrastructure-as-a-Service business and is expected to be followed shortly by registration of its derivatives contract market.

The significance lies in what the registration allows tZERO to build. A DCO is a CFTC-regulated clearinghouse that provides clearing and settlement services for derivatives transactions and manages the associated counterparty credit risk. Combined with the pending exchange registration, tZERO can now develop a regulated venue for products such as event contracts and, subject to product approvals, tokenized and conventional derivatives, perpetual futures and other crypto products. That extends the company's regulated footprint from securities into derivatives and gives institutional clients a path to construct derivative offerings on tZERO's trading and clearing infrastructure.

For the tokenization market, the move sharpens a distinction tZERO has been drawing around its business model. Many providers concentrate on issuing or servicing tokenized assets, while tZERO argues its regulated capabilities span multiple stages of the market lifecycle. The DCO, together with the forthcoming DCM, positions the firm to support institutions developing offerings across traditional and tokenized securities, derivatives and other eligible products, with what the company describes as horizontal interoperability across securities and derivatives workflows.

"This is a major expansion of what tZERO can build with institutions," said Alan Konevsky, Chief Executive Officer of tZERO. "We have spent years assembling regulated infrastructure for tokenized securities and other financial assets. With a clearinghouse registration, and forthcoming exchange registration for derivatives, we can address an additional market and support a much broader set of client ambitions."

The company first announced its applications for both registrations in September 2025. Vanessa Savino, Chief Legal and Administrative Officer, described the approval as a pinnacle moment in the licensing journey, adding that tZERO intends to grow the capability iteratively and in step with client needs. Al Swimmer, Chief Strategic Relationships Officer, said the registrations allow the firm to work with partners earlier in the process of bringing a derivatives product to market.

The approval also carries weight for institutional strategy. tZERO's multi-asset model is designed to help institutions offer customers a range of financial products through modular integrations and white-label solutions, and the firm's introducing broker can provide access to products offered on third-party markets. Details of the registration are available through the CFTC filing, and the company maintains a website with further information. The original release can be viewed on www.newmediawire.com.
