Colorado Judicial Institute to Host Forum on AI’s Impact on Legal Profession

The Colorado Judicial Institute (CJI), the state’s only independent, nonpartisan nonprofit dedicated to promoting excellence, equity, impartiality, and public trust in Colorado’s courts, announced it will host a Thought Leadership Forum on one of the most pressing issues facing the legal profession: the influence of artificial intelligence.

The forum, “AI Today: What the Legal Community Needs to Know Right Now,” will take place November 6 and bring together judges and legal experts to explore how AI is reshaping the practice of law — from courtroom ethics to law firm innovation. “AI is no longer a future trend. It’s here now, and it’s already testing the boundaries of ethics, professionalism, and trust in our courts,” said CJI Board Chair Thor Nelson. “This forum will provide Colorado’s legal community with the insights needed to navigate the risks and seize the opportunities that AI presents.”

The event will be held at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP, 1900 Lawrence Street, Denver, CO, from 4:00 p.m. for registration and networking, with the forum running from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. Panelists include Hon. Lino Lipinsky of the Colorado Court of Appeals, who will discuss how the Colorado Rules of Professional Conduct govern attorneys’ use of generative AI, with real-world cases of misuse and consequences. Hon. Maritza Dominguez Braswell of the U.S. District Court, District of Colorado, will examine AI’s societal and legal impacts, including bias, accuracy, and the line between what AI can do versus what it should do. Katina Banks, Esq., of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP, will explore how firms are integrating AI into client service and the frameworks needed for responsible adoption.

Registration is available at CJI’s website. CJI members pay $100; non-members $125. The forum offers 2 CLE credits (0.8 ethics, 1.2 general). Sponsors include Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP and Maverick Public Relations. Sponsorship opportunities are available by contacting Joseph Kennedy at kennedy_joseph@outlook.com.

The Colorado Judicial Institute, founded in 1979, is an independent, nonpartisan, statewide community organization and 501(c)(3) nonprofit that works to promote excellence, equity, impartiality, and public trust in Colorado’s courts through outreach, education, and engagement.
