Comfort Area Foundation Distributes $442,000 in Flood Relief, Urges Tourism to Support Recovery

The Comfort Area Foundation (CAF) announced it has mobilized critical financial resources for communities devastated by the July 4th flooding in the Texas Hill Country. Through grants and fundraising, more than $442,000 was raised and deployed directly to assist 93 local businesses and 78 property owners and families in Center Point, Comfort, Waring, and Sisterdale.

Two grants from the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country, combined with donor generosity, made the distribution possible. Chris Havens, President of the Comfort Area Foundation, stated, “The response from our community and our partners demonstrates the strength and resilience of the Greater Comfort Region. These funds represent more than financial assistance... they represent hope, stability and the commitment we share to stand together during times of crisis.”

With rebuilding efforts underway, CAF now invites visitors to return to the region to support local businesses, restaurants, and nonprofits that are key to recovery. “Without the traditional summer tourism in the region, the long-term recovery includes a significant need for weekend tourism and local shopping to return to the Greater Comfort region,” Havens said, emphasizing that tourism is the next critical phase of support.

The foundation encourages engagement through visits, purchases, and donations. For those interested in helping, more information and ways to contribute are available at ComfortFloodRelief.com. Additionally, Rebuild Kerr has released public data through their Central Texas Flood Needs Assessment detailing what is needed in affected communities.

Looking forward, the Comfort Vision 2050 document captures the community's priorities, including flood mitigation, TXDOT safety planning, and economic diversification. The CAF encourages residents and visitors to explore this plan to understand the long-term goals for the region.

The Comfort Area Foundation, dedicated to enhancing quality of life through charitable initiatives and community development, stresses that every visit and purchase directly contributes to the resilience and sustainability of the Texas Hill Country.
