Duo Duo Project's London Symposium Highlights Global Efforts to End Dog and Cat Meat Trade

The Duo Duo Project hosted a global gathering in London, uniting animal advocates from around the world to advance the mission of ending the dog and cat meat trade. The event, titled Compassion Beyond Borders Symposium, served as a platform to celebrate progress and strengthen international collaboration.

Founded by Andrea Gung, the Duo Duo Project has worked for over twelve years in China to change attitudes through humane education, community outreach, and stray population control. The organization's efforts are centered on the belief that empathy can dismantle cruelty. Gung stated, "When we began, it felt impossible. But I have seen with my own eyes how compassion can change culture. This is no longer a dream - it's a movement that's winning hearts across borders."

A highlight of the symposium was the update on the organization's Spay and Neuter Training Center, the first of its kind in China. This facility aims to train veterinarians and animal welfare workers in humane methods to reduce stray populations, addressing a root cause of the dog and cat meat trade. Gung emphasized, "Every spay or neuter procedure represents not just one life saved, but a step toward ending this cruelty forever."

The event also featured the first Compassion Beyond Borders Awards, honoring allies Nancy Janes of Romania Animal Rescue and Karen Reed of Dogs Trust UK. Reed's award was accepted by Charlotte, a member of the Duo Duo Pack UK. Christy, Director of Campaigns and Development, noted, "We are living in a time when so many horrors are out of our control. But the horror of the dog and cat meat trade can be stopped in our lifetime. This is a winnable campaign."

The Duo Duo Project continues to raise funds for the training center through its Virtual Buy-A-Brick Campaign, allowing supporters worldwide to contribute. Gung reflected, "What began as a mission to save one dog named Duo Duo has become a global movement. Every volunteer, every donor, every voice that joins us brings us closer to ending this trade once and for all."

The symposium's atmosphere was filled with emotion and unity, as attendees from Asia and North America celebrated achievements and strengthened the community of advocates. The event underscored that compassion has no borders and that a global movement for kindness is well underway.
