Bestselling author Elizabeth Graham, an authority on the Trump-Putin relationship, warns that the United States is succumbing to tyranny and despotism under a leader she calls a traitor. In a recent post on her Substack (egraham.substack.com), Graham writes that the July 4th independence celebration will be remembered as the time when America fell to absolute power controlled by its enemy.
Graham, who spent nearly twenty years in Russia, Central Asia, and Ukraine, quotes Roman statesman Cicero: 'A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within.' She argues that many Americans doubt Trump is a traitor, persisting in a dangerous ignorance. She cites Mark Twain: 'It ain't what you don't know that gets you into trouble. It is what you know for sure that just ain't so.'
Drawing parallels to Soviet propaganda, Graham claims that Republicans are unknowingly persuaded by techniques used in Russia a century ago. She asserts that Trump, convicted of business fraud, 34 felony counts, and sexual assault, is legally labeled a sexual predator. 'America is now led by a convicted criminal and a traitor,' she writes, adding that his reign may end only with his demise.
Graham explains that when the USSR realized it could not defeat the U.S. militarily, it launched a disinformation and deception campaign. She claims Trump became the KGB's top asset after being lured to Moscow with promises of business and women, then trapped. This was verified by senior KGB operative Oleg Kalugin in an interview with Craig Unger for American Kompromat. Graham notes that her daughter Lize, who worked as a bookkeeper at a Moscow nightclub, witnessed underage prostitution provided to western men, including Trump.
She lists Trump's actions that she says weaken the U.S.: removing troops from Germany, threatening war in Iran, negating NATO, and closing USAID. Regarding USAID, Graham states it was a source of intelligence for the CIA, masked as humanitarian aid. She claims Elon Musk visited Moscow, and two weeks later USAID was closed. Citing reports from The Lancet and Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, she warns of 22 million preventable deaths by 2030 due to the closure, calling it deliberate murder of Black people comparable to Hitler and Stalin.
Graham predicts Trump will attempt to stay in power beyond 2028, noting Putin has remained in control for 26 years. She claims Russian organized crime earns $3 billion annually in the U.S. (The Guardian, Dec. 4, 2024), laundered through Trump condo purchases, and that Trump's net worth increased by $2 billion in the last year (Forbes, Sept. 9, 2025). Trump's sons verified that Russians bailed out the Trump Organization with $100 million (www.vanityfair.com, www.businessinsider.com).
