EnerCam Resources Co., Ltd., the Cambodian energy subsidiary of Angkor Resources Corp., has submitted the terms of its comprehensive drilling contractor tender to Cambodia's Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) for review, the company announced via NEWMEDIAWIRE. Once approved, the tender will be made public so that drilling companies can bid to drill exploratory wells on Block VIII, marking a key milestone in Cambodia's efforts to develop its own onshore oil and gas resources.
The tender follows the Ministry of Environment's approval of EnerCam's Environmental Impact Assessment on September 30, 2026, which cleared the way to drill on all four sub-basins. The 89-page document sets out the full scope of work, from importing the rig and equipment into Cambodia to testing each well. Mike Weeks, President of EnerCam, stated, "This tender puts on paper everything the first wells in Cambodia need to deliver, and that includes the equipment, the drilling, the testing and how we protect the communities around each site."
The drilling program envisions one exploration well in each of the four sub-basins—South Bokor, Central Bokor, North Bokor and Kirirom—with a fifth well to be located based on results. Wells will be drilled to depths of up to 3,300 meters, targeting at least two potential pay zones in the three Bokor sub-basins, including fractured Permian carbonates. Each well that indicates hydrocarbons will be completed in a full production configuration, flow-tested for four weeks, and then shut in for a 12-week pressure build-up to definitively assess commerciality. The tender also mandates adherence to the approved EIA, covering community protection, water and land management, drilling fluid handling, and site restoration.
EnerCam has already completed due diligence on multiple potential contractors, including two visits to China in 2026 to meet three drilling service providers and site visits to Block VIII by two contractors. The company is targeting bid selection in early 2027, with mobilization taking approximately three months after a contractor is chosen. As Cambodia imports 100% of its hydrocarbon-based energy products, discovering a domestic supply remains a high priority. The Block VIII wells will provide the first direct well data from the onshore basins and set a precedent for how onshore wells are permitted, contracted and drilled in Cambodia.
Angkor Resources, listed on the TSX Venture Exchange, holds a 30-year Production Sharing Contract for Block VIII, covering approximately 4,095 km² in southwest Cambodia. The company completed 350 line-kilometers of 2D seismic and has identified multiple drill targets. Further updates on the drilling tender and well-planning progress are expected at regular intervals.
