Featured, the AI co-pilot for PR, announced that Featured Workflows are now available on every plan, including the Free tier. The move, revealed by the company, marks a significant shift in access to automated media monitoring, which has traditionally been a costly tool reserved for agencies and larger organizations.
Workflows are always-on automations that monitor a dozen types of PR opportunities—from journalist requests and podcast pitches to awards, speaking events, and competitor coverage—on a user-defined schedule. Results are delivered via email or Slack. Since the feature launched on paid plans in July 2026, users have created 467 workflows, completed 26,239 runs, and surfaced 93,012 matched opportunities, with 93% of runs finding at least one match, according to Featured's Workflows Usage Report. These metrics underscore the demand for continuous, automated opportunity discovery.
For small businesses and solo founders, the implications are substantial. PR agencies already budget for monitoring services, but most founders and small businesses never set up such systems due to cost and complexity. By offering Workflows on the Free plan, Featured removes that barrier. Users can run workflows until they hit a daily usage allowance, after which workflows pause and resume the next day. Paid plans—Lite at $29 per month and Pro at $79 per month billed annually—offer higher allowances. This tiered approach makes advanced monitoring accessible to a much broader audience, potentially enabling smaller players to compete for media coverage alongside established firms.
Setting up a workflow is designed to be simple. Users can go to Featured, select a workflow, and fill in three fields: what to look for, when to receive it, and where to send results. Alternatively, they can type a single sentence into Featured Chat, such as, “Send me HARO requests about small business finance every morning in Slack.” This plain-language configuration eliminates the need for complex search syntax, making the tool approachable for non-experts.
Workflows monitor 12 distinct opportunity types, including journalist requests from HARO, Connectively, Substack, and X; podcast matching from a database of 814,000 active shows; self-updating media lists; bylined article opportunities; speaking events; awards; media mentions; competitor visibility; and AI visibility across platforms like ChatGPT and Claude. The all-in-one workflow combines several of these into a single automation.
Importantly, Featured Workflows stop at the opportunity. They do not automatically contact journalists, hosts, or organizers. As Brett Farmiloe, CEO of Featured, stated, “Automation stops at the opportunity. A person still decides whether it's relevant and what to say.” This human-in-the-loop design ensures that outreach remains personal and strategic, addressing ethical concerns about spam and preserving the quality of media relationships.
The expansion to the Free plan could democratize access to PR tools, allowing small businesses to monitor their industry continuously without a dedicated agency. It also positions Featured as a platform that scales with users, from free beginners to paid professionals. As AI continues to reshape PR workflows, making such automation available at no cost may accelerate adoption and change how companies of all sizes approach media relations.
