A coordinated effort to combat food insecurity in Middlesex County resulted in the collection of thousands of pounds of food for local pantries. The one-day drive, dubbed "Flood the Food Banks," took place on August 5 and was organized in partnership with Middlesex United Way as part of the Middlesex Pantry Project, an initiative that supports local food banks throughout the year.
The event generated an estimated 2,500 to 3,000 pounds of non-perishable items, which were distributed among 13 food pantries and food banks across the county, including direct drop-offs to two smaller pantries. Residents contributed commonly requested staples such as canned vegetables, soup, pasta, rice, peanut butter, cereal, shelf-stable milk, canned tuna and chicken, and macaroni and cheese. Collection points were set up at participating grocery stores and community locations.
The Flood Law Firm served as the presenting partner, helping to raise awareness and encourage participation. The firm's team also volunteered during the drive, interacting with residents and supporting the pantries' efforts. This involvement reflects the firm's commitment to giving back to the communities it serves, as stated by Brian Flood, co-founder of the firm: "Giving back to the communities where we live, work, and serve our clients is an important part of who we are. Flood the Food Banks brought our team together with Middlesex United Way and community members for a meaningful effort that will help support families and individuals throughout Middlesex County."
The drive emphasized the need for year-round donations, as food insecurity persists beyond the holiday season. By coordinating a summer collection, organizers aimed to replenish pantry supplies and ensure families have access to nutritious food throughout the year. The initiative also received local media coverage, including reporting from WTNH and a sponsored feature highlighting the partnership.
The success of the event demonstrates the power of community collaboration, with thousands of pounds of food and additional financial contributions reaching organizations that serve Middlesex County residents. The effort not only provided immediate relief but also underscored the ongoing need for support to combat food insecurity.
The Flood Law Firm, founded in 2012 by brothers Brian and Chris Flood, is a Connecticut personal injury law firm that advocates for individuals and families who have been harmed. The firm's participation in this community initiative reflects its broader commitment to supporting the communities where its clients live and work.
