Fuel the Drive Aims to Quintuple Youth Sports Access by 2026

Fuel the Drive, a nonprofit organization based in Denver, Colorado, has announced plans to significantly expand its youth sports programs in 2026. Founded by Terry and Michelle Aikin, the organization removes financial barriers for children from low-income families to participate in golf and tennis. In the coming year, Fuel the Drive aims to serve at least five times as many young people as it did in 2025, according to founder and president Terry Aikin.

The organization sponsors children's enrollment in local PGA Junior League and U.S. Tennis Association programs, covering registration fees, equipment, and training guidance. Over the past three years, Fuel the Drive has introduced golf to more than 100 children annually and provided tennis access to over 500 children. The new goal is to expand golf programming to serve more than 500 young athletes in 2026.

“Cost remains one of the most significant barriers to participation in organized youth sports,” Aikin stated. “By removing that obstacle, we enable children to engage in structured environments that promote self-confidence, perseverance and personal growth.” The nonprofit emphasizes that participation in these sports helps develop transferable life skills such as self-discipline, teamwork, and problem-solving.

Aikin shared a success story: “With Fuel the Drive's assistance, Mavarro has played in the PGA Junior League program for the past three years. His father tells us that playing golf has helped Mavarro develop patience and confidence, and he's earned an award for perseverance. What's more, Mavarro's love for golf has translated into increased analytical skills that are helping him tackle challenges he faces in school and in life.”

To achieve its ambitious growth target, Fuel the Drive is increasing outreach efforts. The organization has launched a new website and is expanding digital outreach to engage partners, community stakeholders, and new donors. “Our donor base has been very generous, and their contributions have made our impact possible,” Aikin noted. “But we're seeking to significantly grow that base in order to achieve our objectives for 2026.”
