The American Heart Association, in partnership with the LPGA and Dow, is bringing Hands-Only CPR training to the Dow Championship in Midland, Michigan, offering golf fans an opportunity to learn a skill that can double or triple survival rates from cardiac arrest. The Nation of Lifesavers Mobile CPR unit will be on-site throughout tournament days, providing walk-up instruction from qualified trainers. Participants will learn the correct rate and depth of chest compressions, emphasizing that calling 911 and pushing hard and fast in the center of the chest can be just as effective as traditional CPR in the first few minutes of an emergency.
According to the American Heart Association, 9 out of 10 people who suffer cardiac arrest outside a hospital die, often because they do not receive immediate CPR. The Association's 2026 Heart Disease and Stroke Statistics report underscores the urgency: survival rates remain low when bystanders are not prepared to act. By training more individuals, the Nation of Lifesavers aims to double survival rates by 2030. The initiative has already activated at major sporting events, including Super Bowl LX, the NFL Draft, and the NBA All-Star Game, and will appear at FIFA Fan Festival sites this summer.
During tournament week, Dow's SOAR Summit will feature a fireside chat with NFL Hall of Fame running back Barry Sanders, NWSL player Savy King, and American Heart Association CEO Nancy Brown, highlighting resilience and recovery after cardiac events.
