Green SM Launches All-Electric Taxi Service in Los Angeles, Marking First North American Entry

Green SM, the Vietnamese all-electric ride-hailing company, has officially launched its services in Los Angeles, California, marking its first entry into North America and its ninth global market. The move, announced via Media OutReach Newswire, positions the company in one of the world's most competitive transportation markets and highlights the accelerating shift toward electric mobility in the United States.

Starting October 13, customers in Los Angeles can book rides through the Green SM app, by calling the company's hotline, or by hailing a vehicle on the street. The service will cater to a wide range of needs, from everyday trips and longer journeys to airport transfers. Green SM operates a 100% all-electric fleet of VinFast vehicles, specifically the VF 8 model, and promises a high-quality experience through its 5 Good Promises: Good Cars, Good Drivers, Good Price, Good Experience, and Good for the Environment.

The launch is significant because it brings a proven electric mobility model to a market that is actively seeking to reduce transportation emissions. Los Angeles has some of the worst air quality in the nation and has set ambitious climate goals, including transitioning to zero-emission vehicles. Green SM's entry adds a new zero-emission option for residents and visitors, potentially accelerating the adoption of electric ride-hailing and putting pressure on traditional gasoline-powered fleets to adapt.

To attract customers, Green SM is offering new users 50% off fares, up to USD 12 per ride, on their first five trips. They also receive a complimentary Green Pass membership with 10 discount vouchers per month, each offering 30% off fares, up to USD 10 per ride. These promotions are designed to quickly build a customer base and demonstrate the value of electric ride-hailing.

Ms. Hoang Thanh Hang, CEO of Green SM in the U.S., said, "The United States represents an important milestone in Green SM's growth journey. We are not simply expanding into a new market. We aim to build trust with customers, drivers and local communities, one journey at a time. Our experience across international markets has shown us that the future of electric mobility is not defined by an all-electric fleet alone. It also depends on service quality, well-trained and reliable drivers, and genuine care in every customer interaction."

Beyond passenger service, Green SM plans to build a local team, recruit and train drivers, and contribute to the green transition in Los Angeles. The company's global track record includes approximately 850 million rides and nearly 6 billion kilometers driven, resulting in a reduction of more than 800,000 tons of CO₂ emissions—equivalent to the carbon absorbed by about 36 million trees. This environmental impact is a core part of its value proposition.

The launch also represents a milestone for VinFast, the electric vehicle manufacturer behind Green SM's fleet. By showcasing VinFast vehicles in a high-profile U.S. market, the service could boost brand visibility and consumer confidence in Vietnamese electric vehicles. Green SM's expansion into the U.S. may also intensify competition in the ride-hailing sector, where major players are gradually electrifying their fleets. As cities worldwide push for cleaner transportation, Green SM's model offers a scalable solution that integrates vehicles, drivers, and digital platforms.

With its Los Angeles debut, Green SM is betting that American consumers are ready for an all-electric, service-oriented alternative. The company's success will depend on operational execution, local partnerships, and its ability to differentiate itself in a crowded market. If it succeeds, it could pave the way for further expansion across North America and reinforce the global trend toward sustainable urban mobility.
