HITN MEDIA, the leading nonprofit Spanish-language public media company in the United States, announced at MIPCOM the launch of Vida y Salud as a new 24/7 linear television network. Initially available through HITN MEDIA's digital platforms, including the HITN GO app and VidaySalud.com, the network will later debut in Puerto Rico on WIPR's channel 6.3, carried by Liberty Cable, reaching over 1.3 million households.
The significance of this launch lies in its potential to transform health communication for Hispanic communities. "Hispanic families deserve health information and services in their own language that are reliable and practical for their daily lives," said Michael D. Nieves, president and CEO of HITN MEDIA. "For several years, we have advanced Vida y Salud's mission through digital platforms, and now, with this new television network, we will be able to bring this guidance to more people." This move addresses a critical gap in accessible, culturally competent health content, which can improve health outcomes and reduce disparities.
Vida y Salud's programming will focus on preventive health, nutrition, physical activity, emotional well-being, and healthy lifestyles, with practical information tailored to Hispanic audiences. The network's launch strengthens an existing ecosystem that includes digital platforms, newsletters, social media, and live events. It also introduces new digital health tools, such as a personal health management portal and live consultations with specialists. These services extend the brand's mission beyond information to active support, potentially empowering individuals to manage their health more effectively.
From a business perspective, the expansion creates opportunities for advertisers and sponsors in health-related categories, including pharmaceuticals, insurance, personal care, and chronic disease management. Future plans include telehealth services and medical prescriptions, indicating a broader strategy to become a comprehensive health resource. This could disrupt traditional healthcare access by providing convenient, Spanish-language services that are often lacking.
Vida y Salud was founded by Dr. Aliza Lifshitz, known as Doctora Aliza, to strengthen the relationship between Hispanic patients and healthcare professionals. Since 2018, HITN MEDIA has managed the brand, and in 2026, it acquired full control, paving the way for this expansion. The network's launch reaffirms HITN MEDIA's commitment to serving Hispanic communities. As the company reaches over 35 million households through providers like DIRECTV, Comcast Xfinity, Charter Spectrum, and Claro (Puerto Rico), the new network is poised to make a substantial impact on public health.
