Hong Kong Connects Malaysian Ambition With Asia's Growth Opportunities

The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) will bring its flagship promotional campaign Think Business, Think Hong Kong (TBTHK) to Kuala Lumpur on 11 August, aiming to connect Malaysian businesses with Hong Kong's ecosystem of investors, professional services, and market opportunities across Asia and beyond.

The full-day symposium at Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur targets Malaysian companies seeking regional and international expansion, aligning with Malaysia's New Industrial Master Plan 2030 which focuses on industrial transformation, sustainability, and global value chain integration. HKTDC's Regional Director of South East Asia & South Asia, Leung Kwan Ho, emphasized that Hong Kong can serve as a superconnector and super value-adder for Malaysian firms, providing access to the Greater Bay Area and wider China market.

The event will feature discussions on RMB internationalisation, sustainability and green innovations, Hong Kong's role as an international financial and business centre, and healthcare solutions. Distinguished guests include Algernon Yau, Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development of the Hong Kong SAR Government, and YB Loke Siew Fook, Minister of Transport Malaysia.

Approximately 30 Hong Kong service providers and start-ups will showcase their products in the Business Support Zone and InnoVenture Salon, with one-on-one business consultations and on-site matching to facilitate collaboration. A delegation of around 100 officials, business leaders, and innovators from sectors like finance, technology, and professional services will participate in networking events and business matching.

Malaysia and Hong Kong share strong economic ties, with Malaysia being Hong Kong's 3rd largest trading partner among ASEAN states in 2025. Hong Kong was Malaysia's 2nd largest investor after Singapore, with cumulative FDI of US$34.8 billion by end of 2025, and net FDI flow of US$1.6 billion in the same year.
