Hong Kong Optical Fair 2026 Spotlights Silver Economy and Smart Eyewear

The 34th Hong Kong International Optical Fair, organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and co-organised by the Hong Kong Optical Manufacturers Association, opened today at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Running from 4 to 6 November, the fair brings together more than 600 exhibitors from 14 countries and regions under the theme "Bright Eyes-New Horizons." The event underscores the optical industry's response to shifting consumer preferences, supply chain realignments, and the rise of the silver economy and smart technologies.

At the opening ceremony, Patrick Yeung, Council Member of the HKTDC, noted that sustainability, innovation, the silver economy, and increased health awareness are emerging as key growth drivers. Smilely Lam, HKTDC Acting Executive Director, emphasised the fair's role as a dynamic marketplace, with buying missions from 34 countries and regions, including Indonesia, Malaysia, Korea, France, the United Kingdom, and Brazil. The fair's comprehensive zones—such as Smart Eyewear, Designer Village, and Innovation Hub—offer a showcase of industry innovation. For full event details, visit the Hong Kong International Optical Fair website.

A significant highlight is the focus on the silver economy, reflected in the Smart Ageing Products label. Italian exhibitor Divel Italia presents progressive lenses designed for seniors, using Vision Smart Technology to enhance stability and reduce distortion. Hong Kong's Best Power showcases Swap-Battery Bone Conduction Hearing Glasses that combine hearing aid functionality with eyewear, addressing both hearing and vision needs. These innovations cater to an ageing population, a growing market segment.

Smart eyewear is another major trend. Sichuan Yingmu Technology's INMO Air3 smart glasses feature a Sony Micro OLED display, Android 14 ecosystem, and a ChatGPT-powered AI assistant. Shenzhen GetD Technology's GSPRO series AI glasses offer health monitoring, fall detection, and real-time translation in over 145 languages. These products illustrate how artificial intelligence and wearable technology are converging to create multifunctional devices.

Sustainability is also in focus with the Green Solutions label. Brevno, an eco-friendly brand from Siberia, crafts frames from natural and recycled materials, while Greatland Enterprise uses 100% recycled fishing nets. The fair also organised a Green Booth Design Competition to encourage sustainable practices. The HKTDC's broader commitment to sustainability and innovation is detailed in its research reports and digital news channels.

The fair features the 24th Hong Kong International Optometric Symposium on 5 November, focusing on primary eye care. Experts from around the world will discuss topics such as children's eye care and dry eye management. The symposium is accredited by the Optometrists Board of Hong Kong, offering up to six CPD hours. For more information, visit the symposium page.

The 26th Hong Kong Eyewear Design Competition, themed "Mix & Match," showcases local creative talent, with winning designs on display. The fair also adopts the "EXHIBITION+" hybrid model, allowing online business matching until 13 November. The HKTDC, celebrating its 60th anniversary, continues to promote Hong Kong as a global business hub through international exhibitions and conferences.
