Hong Kong Optical Fair Concludes with 12,000 Buyers, Spotlight on Smart Tech and Sustainability

The 33rd Hong Kong International Optical Fair, organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and co-organized by the Hong Kong Optical Manufacturers Association (HKOMA), concluded successfully on November 7, 2025. The three-day event attracted approximately 12,000 buyers from 92 countries and regions, reinforcing its status as a premier global sourcing platform for the eyewear industry.

Buyers from outside Hong Kong primarily came from the Chinese Mainland, Taiwan, India, Japan, Korea, the US, and ASEAN countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Thailand. The fair showcased contemporary products aligned with key market trends: “smart technology,” “sustainability,” “silver healthcare,” and “functionality & design.” Exhibitors integrated artificial intelligence and eco-friendly materials to cater to diverse market needs.

The “Brand Name Gallery” featured over 200 renowned brands, including new participants like SUEEY.MASADA from the Chinese Mainland, JULBO from France, and THRASHER from the US. Smart technology was a major draw, with Shenzhen MUEDO Technology Co., Ltd. presenting its U10 Dual-Mode Smart Reading Glasses, which combine auto-focusing lenses with Hi-Fi stereo sound. Overseas Sales Manager Helen Zhuang reported inquiries from buyers in Italy, Germany, the US, and India, and ongoing negotiations for a US$500,000 order with an Italian buyer.

Sustainability also took center stage. Hong Kong exhibitor Winky International Limited showcased eco-friendly sunglasses and optical frames made from biodegradable materials. Founder Kevin Ching noted that the “Green Solutions Suppliers” label attracted buyers from Indonesia, Vietnam, South Africa, and the Chinese Mainland, including a potential US$1 million order from an Israeli agent with 260 retail points.

Prominent international buyers included the Mondottica Group representative for Australia, Brazil's VISTA IMPORT, France's Kering Eyewear, Germany's Fielmann Group, UK's Specsavers, India's Lenskart, and Indonesia's Grand Optik. Caitlin Northup, Vice President of Operations for US-based Eyenavision, stated that they placed onsite orders totaling US$500,000 with two exhibitors from the Chinese Mainland. Spain's Optisero, S.L., a family business with 30 years in the industry, connected with 20 potential suppliers and plans an annual sourcing budget of EUR2 million.

The fair also hosted the 25th Hong Kong Eyewear Design Competition, themed “Blending Tradition and Technology.” The Open Group champion, “Be With You” by Fung Wai-kuen, uses Bluetooth to alert family members if the wearer falls, earning the “Made-to-Sell Award.” In the Student Group, Shum Chui-shan's “Unique Perspectives” won first place for its butterfly motif and detachable design.

The fair adopted the EXHIBITION+ hybrid model, extending business opportunities through the Click2Match platform until November 14. Buyers also used the Scan2Match function on the HKTDC Marketplace App to engage with exhibitors. For more details, visit the Hong Kong International Optical Fair website.
