The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), in collaboration with Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP), concluded a successful participation at Mobile World Congress (MWC) and 4 Years From Now (4YFN) 2026 in Barcelona, Spain. The delegation of 20 local innovation and technology (I&T) companies and institutions showcased Hong Kong's cutting-edge solutions in Connectivity, Devices and Systems, Digital Transformation, and Ecosystem Partners, aiming to access overseas markets and demonstrate the city's role as an international I&T hub.
This marks a significant step for Hong Kong's tech sector as it seeks to expand into European markets. The dual-pavilion layout at both events allowed participants to engage with global industry leaders and investors, generating business collaboration, technology co-development, and investment opportunities. Iris Wong, Director of Merchandise Trade and Innovation at HKTDC, emphasized Hong Kong's commitment to becoming an international I&T centre, leveraging its robust mobile communications infrastructure and expertise in 5G/6G and AI integration.
Derek Chim, Head of Startup Ecosystem and Development at HKSTP, noted that the dual-zone presence provided innovators a global stage to validate solutions and drive business traction. The events included networking receptions, themed talks, and pitching sessions that highlighted the dynamism of Hong Kong's I&T ecosystem, positioning the city as a strategic springboard for international companies entering Asian markets and for local firms expanding globally.
European stakeholders responded positively. Alejandro Gallego, International Business Director of AMEC, described the Hong Kong Pavilions as highly inspirational and noted already started conversations for concrete collaboration. Jacobo Pérez-Soba, Manager of the Internationalisation Department at Madrid Chamber of Commerce & Industry, praised the forward-looking solutions and expressed interest in upcoming Hong Kong tech events.
As 2026 marks the opening year of China's 15th Five-Year Plan with technological innovation as a national priority, HKTDC and HKSTP will continue to support local tech firms in going global.
