ICON Smile Studios, the Hampton Roads specialty dental group founded by Dr. Yugal Behl and Dr. Monika Madan, has announced the opening of two flagship, multidisciplinary campuses in Virginia Beach and Norfolk. The new locations, at 125 Independence Boulevard in Virginia Beach and 155 Kingsley Lane in Norfolk, represent the organization's most significant expansion to date and the next chapter in a legacy of specialty dental care in the region that spans more than six decades.
Each flagship unites ICON Smile Studios' specialty brands — Behl Orthodontics, Madan Periodontics & Implant Dentistry, and ICON Pediatric Dentistry — along with oral and maxillofacial surgery and sedation dentistry, all under a single roof. This model allows patients of all ages to access coordinated, specialist-level care without being referred across multiple offices, reflecting a broader shift toward integrated, multidisciplinary practices designed to improve both patient experience and clinical outcomes.
Dr. Yugal Behl, founder of Behl Orthodontics and co-founder of ICON Smile Studios, emphasized the vision behind the expansion: "For more than 20 years, my goal has been to bring specialist-level orthodontic and dental care to every family in Hampton Roads, no matter their zip code. These flagship campuses are the clearest expression yet of that vision — bringing together the specialties families need most, under one roof, in one visit."
ICON Smile Studios' orthodontic heritage traces back to 1960, when Fulton Orthodontics opened as one of Hampton Roads' pioneering orthodontic practices. A decade later, Albinder Orthodontics was founded, building its own tradition of personalized care. Both practices, along with Virginia Beach Orthodontics, have since become part of the Behl Orthodontics network, which Dr. Behl has grown to seven locations across Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Suffolk, Hampton, and Yorktown since founding the practice in 2010.
Dr. Behl earned his dental degree before completing advanced postdoctoral training at Boston University, including a Doctor of Science in Oral Biology and specialty certification in orthodontics. He has since become a Diamond Invisalign provider recognized among the top providers in the country. In 2026, he completed the Executive MBA program at William & Mary's Raymond A. Mason School of Business, strengthening his focus on strategy, finance, and healthcare leadership as the organization scales.
Dr. Monika Madan, co-founder of ICON Smile Studios and a periodontist and implant specialist, highlighted the collaborative benefits: "Patients shouldn't have to navigate five different offices to get the care their smile needs. When our specialists can collaborate under one roof, patients get better outcomes and a far less stressful experience — and that's exactly what these new flagships are built for."
The Virginia Beach and Norfolk openings kick off a multi-year expansion plan, with locations in Hampton planned for 2027 and Williamsburg in 2028. "The next 60 years are about honoring the past while investing in the future," said Dr. Behl. "That means developing exceptional leaders, advancing specialty dentistry, and continuing to serve generations of Hampton Roads families — the same way Fulton Orthodontics and Albinder Orthodontics did for us."
