ITASCA Australia will have a new general manager starting January 1, 2027, with David Wines stepping into the role after a competitive recruitment process that considered both internal and external candidates. Wines, currently a principal with the company, succeeds Glenn Sharrock, who is stepping down to focus full-time on consulting as a senior principal. The change is designed to give clients more direct access to Sharrock's engineering and consulting expertise while placing executive leadership in the hands of someone with deep technical and strategic experience.
Wines brings more than two decades of industry experience to the position, with a particular focus on supporting open-pit mining operations. His combination of technical expertise and leadership has been recognized within the company, where he has served as a principal and also on the board of directors of ITASCA International, Inc., most recently as board chair. That board-level experience gives him a broad view of the organization's global capabilities and strategic direction, which he will now apply to the Australian business.
The appointment matters for clients because it pairs experienced executive leadership with expanded access to world-class consulting expertise. Jonny Sjöberg, chief executive officer of ITASCA International, said, "David's leadership experience, technical expertise, and commitment to our clients make him exceptionally well suited to lead ITASCA Australia. This transition benefits both our team and our clients by pairing experienced executive leadership with expanded access to world-class consulting expertise." The shift also supports ITASCA Australia's continued growth by strengthening senior consulting capacity and maintaining continuity for existing client relationships.
For clients who have worked with Wines on open-pit mining projects, the transition signals continued access to ITASCA's specialized consulting resources and deep technical knowledge. The company's employee-owned structure and focus on geomechanics, hydrogeology, geochemistry, engineering geology, and numerical simulation underpin its ability to solve complex engineering challenges in mining, civil, energy, and environmental sectors. Wines said, "I am honored to take on this role and continue building on the strong foundation Glenn and the team have created. ITASCA Australia has a talented team and a strong reputation for technical excellence. I look forward to supporting our clients, developing our people and helping guide the company's continued growth."
The leadership change is more than a routine succession: it reflects a deliberate strategy to deepen consulting capacity while ensuring that clients retain access to senior expertise. By elevating a leader with both board-level experience and hands-on project knowledge, ITASCA Australia aims to sustain its growth trajectory and reinforce its reputation for technical excellence across the region. The transition takes effect at the start of 2027, giving the company time to ensure continuity for ongoing projects and client relationships.
