A Jacksonville family is turning a life-changing Type 1 diabetes diagnosis into a platform for advocacy, education, and community support through their initiative, Pablo’s Pack T1D, and their ongoing participation in the Breakthrough T1D Walk.
When Andrea and her husband, Pablo, learned their son, also named Pablo, had Type 1 diabetes, their lives changed overnight. The diagnosis prompted a deep dive into understanding the condition, adjusting daily routines, and supporting their son through every stage of his journey. Through Pablo’s Pack T1D, the family shares their experiences managing Type 1 diabetes, providing resources and fostering a supportive community for others navigating similar challenges. Their platform highlights the realities of daily glucose monitoring, lifestyle adjustments, and the emotional resilience required to manage the condition.
Beyond their personal story, the family actively participates in the Breakthrough T1D Walk, a national fundraising initiative that brings together families, advocates, and supporters to advance research and improve the lives of individuals living with Type 1 diabetes. The event supports efforts focused on accelerating scientific breakthroughs, improving access to care, and advancing toward a cure, while also creating opportunities for families to connect and share their experiences.
“After our son’s diagnosis, everything changed, but it also gave us a purpose,” Andrea said. “We want other families to know they are not alone and that there is a community working toward a better future.” Through storytelling and community engagement, Pablo’s Pack T1D continues to raise awareness and encourage participation in initiatives that support ongoing research and advocacy.
