Lantern Pharma (NASDAQ: LTRN), a clinical-stage, AI-driven precision oncology company, has received regulatory and Institutional Review Board (IRB) approvals in Taiwan to open Part 2 of its Phase 2 HARMONIC™ trial of LP-300. The lead Taiwan site is now open to accrual and actively screening patients, with Lantern anticipating IRB approval at two additional sites during the fourth quarter. In the United States, a central IRB has approved the amended protocol, and clinical sites have begun identifying patients with the EGFR exon 21 L858R mutation. This regulatory progress marks a significant step forward for Lantern's precision oncology program and could accelerate the development of a targeted therapy for a subset of lung cancer patients with limited treatment options.
The HARMONIC trial is evaluating LP-300 in combination with carboplatin and pemetrexed in patients with the EGFR L858R mutation who have progressed after tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) treatment. Part 2 of the trial will allow LP-300 to be administered for up to eight cycles, an increase from the six cycles previously permitted. This extended dosing schedule may provide patients with more sustained exposure to the investigational therapy, potentially improving outcomes. The company reported preliminary data showing a median progression-free survival of 8.9 months among nine L858R patients who completed six cycles, compared with 8.3 months among all 16 L858R patients evaluated. While these findings are preliminary, exploratory, and based on small patient numbers, they suggest a potential benefit for this genomically defined subgroup.
The Taiwan approvals are particularly important because they expand the trial's geographic reach and patient access, which could speed up enrollment and diversify the patient population. By leveraging its proprietary RADR artificial intelligence and machine-learning platform, Lantern aims to transform the cost, pace, and precision of oncology drug development. The RADR platform integrates large-scale genomic and biological data to identify patients most likely to benefit from Lantern's therapies, guiding biomarker-driven clinical development. This approach is central to the company's pipeline, which includes LP-184 (zirdafulven), LP-300, LP-284, as well as its central-nervous-system-focused subsidiary, Starlight Therapeutics, and its AI subsidiary, Open-Medicine AI.
For investors and industry observers, the Taiwan approvals signal tangible progress in Lantern's clinical strategy and validate its AI-driven approach to drug development. The ability to open sites in Taiwan and secure IRB approvals demonstrates the company's operational execution and could enhance its attractiveness as a partner or investment. Moreover, the amended protocol in the U.S. and the identification of L858R patients reflect a focused effort to target a specific mutation that is associated with poor prognosis after TKI failure. If the preliminary survival signals hold up in larger studies, LP-300 could become a much-needed option for this patient population.
