LAURION Advances Permitting for Ishkōday Gold Project, Targeting Stockpile Recovery and Shaft Dewatering

LAURION Mineral Exploration Inc. (TSX-V: LME | OTC: LMEFF | FSE: 5YD) has provided an update on environmental and permitting activities for its 100%-owned Ishkōday Gold and Polymetallic Project in Northwestern Ontario. The company is advancing two initiatives at the historical Sturgeon River Mine: recovery and remediation of a surface waste rock stockpile, and an Advanced Exploration Project to dewater and rehabilitate the flooded mine shaft. These efforts are supported by five years of comprehensive environmental baseline studies and ongoing consultation with Indigenous communities.

The surface stockpile project involves an application for a Recovery of Minerals Permit submitted to Ontario's Ministry of Energy and Mines, including a Recovery and Remediation Plan under section 152.1 of the Mining Act and Ontario Regulation 463/24. The stockpile, a legacy of historic mining, contains mineralized material that LAURION seeks to recover and process off-site, followed by site remediation. This approach leverages existing surface material without new infrastructure or underground development. The company emphasizes that the work is designed to be environmentally sound and value-additive for shareholders.

Separately, LAURION is preparing a Permit to Take Water (PTTW) application for dewatering the historical Sturgeon River Mine shaft, targeting submission in Q4 2026. The shaft extends approximately 642 metres below surface and has 15 underground levels, flooded since operations ceased in 1942. The Advanced Exploration Project would involve removing the shaft cap, installing a temporary headframe, and controlled dewatering to allow safe underground access for exploration drilling and sampling. A detailed hydrogeological impact assessment will support the PTTW application. Additionally, an Advanced Exploration Closure Plan and other environmental approvals are targeted for early 2027.

Over the past five years, LAURION has completed independent environmental baseline studies covering terrestrial ecology, aquatic and benthic communities, groundwater and surface water, shaft water and hydrogeology, and archaeological assessments. These studies establish existing conditions and inform mitigation measures. The company has also engaged with Indigenous communities, including Animbiigoo Zaagi'igan Anishinaabek First Nation, Bingwi Neyaashi Anishinaabek First Nation, and Biinjitiwaabik Zaaging Anishinaabek First Nation, through an Indigenous Joint Steering Committee. Public consultation will occur as part of the Closure Plan process.

Management commentary highlights the significance of this work. Cynthia Le Sueur-Aquin, President and CEO, stated, "Five years of rigorous, independent environmental baseline work is not a small undertaking, and I am proud of the diligence our team and consultants have brought to this work." She added that recovering residual mineralization from the stockpile is a value-additive project, and dewatering the shaft could provide safe access to evaluate gold-bearing structures not fully explored before 1942. Linda Byron, Director at Blue Heron Environmental, praised LAURION's commitment.

The implications are substantial. If approved, the stockpile recovery could generate non-dilutive value by processing historical waste, while shaft dewatering may unlock new exploration potential in a prolific greenstone belt. The project's advancement signals progress toward a potential future Mineral Resource Estimate and demonstrates LAURION's strategy of disciplined, data-driven exploration. For investors, this update de-risks permitting and underscores the company's focus on responsible development. More information is available at LAURION's website.
