LION Smart Production GmbH, part of LION E-Mobility Group, is accelerating its stationary battery energy storage systems (BESS) business by appointing two internationally experienced experts, signaling the company's commitment to this key growth area. Winfried Wahl has been named Head of BESS Strategy, while Sebastian Bujnoch joins as Manager Business and Sales Development, focusing on international supplier relationships and customer expansion across Europe.
Stationary energy storage systems are critical for integrating renewable energy, stabilizing power grids, and enabling future-proof energy supply. This personnel expansion underscores the strategic importance of the BESS segment as a core growth pillar for LION Smart.
Winfried Wahl brings over 18 years of experience in photovoltaic and stationary energy storage markets. A graduate electrical engineer from RWTH Aachen University, he has expertise across the value chain, including technology positioning, market entry strategies, bankability, and regulatory requirements. In previous roles, he shaped European market entries for companies like Hithium and LONGi, contributing to BNEF Tier 1 listings and reinsurance eligibility through Munich Re. He co-authored the IEA World Energy Outlook Special Report 2024 and serves on juries for PV Magazine. Since June 2026, Wahl has been responsible for BESS strategy at LION Smart in Garching.
Sebastian Bujnoch complements the team with extensive international experience in manufacturing, operations, and the battery sector. His 16-year career spans strategic roles in complex international markets, with deep insights into Chinese and Asian manufacturing, supply chains, and cross-border collaboration. At LION Smart, he will focus on building and scaling the BESS business unit, strengthening relationships with Chinese suppliers, and broadening the European customer portfolio.
Dr. Joachim Damasky, CEO of LION E-Mobility AG, stated: "With Winfried Wahl and Sebastian Bujnoch, we are gaining two individuals who combine strategic market insight, international experience, and operational execution capabilities in an ideal way. Their expertise will play an important role in systematically building our BESS business and positioning LION Smart as a strong partner in the European energy storage market."
By expanding its BESS team, LION Smart aims to develop high-performance, scalable storage solutions, contributing to electrification and the energy transition. The company operates highly automated module assembly lines in Germany and offers customized plug-and-play lithium-ion battery packs for electric vehicles, stationary, and industrial applications.
