ZUG, SWITZERLAND – LION Smart, a company of the LION E-Mobility Group, has been awarded the TOP 100 Seal 2026, placing it among Germany's most innovative mid-sized businesses. The award recognizes outstanding innovative strength and will be presented during the German SME Summit on 26 June in Heidelberg. Former German Federal President Christian Wulff, who serves as mentor to the TOP 100 innovation competition, will personally congratulate LION Smart on this achievement.
The TOP 100 selection process, led by innovation researcher Professor Nikolaus Franke and his team, evaluates companies across five categories: innovation-oriented top management, innovation climate, innovation processes and organisation, external orientation/open innovation, and innovation success. More than 100 assessment criteria are used. The process is based on an online questionnaire completed by participating companies. “At TOP 100, we analyse thoroughly and comprehensively how innovation-driven the applicants are. Those that are exceptionally well positioned receive confirmation in the form of the TOP 100 Seal,” said Prof. Franke.
LION Smart impressed the jury and has been entitled to carry the TOP 100 Seal since 1 February. The company specializes in intelligent energy storage and battery solutions, particularly modular, scalable storage systems for industrial, grid, and mobility applications. LION Smart pursues an innovation-driven approach from concept and system development through market launch. “For us, innovation is not a one-off project, but a permanent part of our day-to-day work and our corporate culture,” said Dr. Joachim Damasky, Managing Partner of LION Smart. “The TOP 100 award confirms that we are setting the right course not only technologically, but also organisationally and strategically.”
A key success factor is the close integration of research, development, and customer requirements: new solutions are developed with a view to real-world applications and future market needs. The company sees the TOP 100 Seal as recognition of its achievements and an incentive to play an active role in shaping the energy transition with further innovative storage solutions.
The TOP 100 Seal is awarded in three size categories: up to 50 employees, 51 to 200 employees, and more than 200 employees. In the 33rd round of the competition, 356 mid-sized companies applied, and 282 were successful. A maximum of 100 companies can be recognized in each size category. The top innovators will gather on 26 June at the Heidelberg Congress Center for the German SME Summit. More information about the competition is available at www.top100.de.
