LION Smart Production GmbH, a subsidiary of LION E-Mobility AG, has secured three additional battery energy storage system (BESS) projects in Germany, each with a capacity of 10 MWh, totaling 30 MWh. The projects, announced in the third quarter of 2026, are scheduled for completion and grid connection in the first quarter of 2027. This development underscores the accelerating adoption of stationary storage as a critical component of the energy transition and positions LION Smart as a key player in the European storage market.
The three projects represent distinct application concepts. One system will be co-located with an existing photovoltaic plant, another will pair storage with a new photovoltaic installation, and the third is a standalone storage project. This diversity demonstrates the versatility of battery storage in enhancing renewable energy integration, stabilizing grids, and providing flexible capacity. As Germany continues to phase out fossil fuels and expand renewable generation, such projects are essential for managing intermittency and ensuring reliable power supply.
LION Smart acts as a system integrator, offering tailor-made solutions that cover the entire lifecycle of a storage project—from consulting and design to engineering, integration, commissioning, and maintenance. Each container is approved by an in-house engineering team according to European quality standards, and performance guarantees back the systems. This comprehensive approach reduces risk for customers and ensures optimal performance, a factor that is driving strong interest from independent power producers, utilities, and municipal utilities.
In addition to its project wins, LION Smart is preparing to launch "BESS as a Service" for operators of photovoltaic and wind farms. This model allows operators to use a storage system without upfront investment, generating additional revenue alongside their renewable energy income. LION Smart assumes the technical risk and provides ongoing service, offering a one-stop solution. The service could significantly lower barriers to entry for smaller operators and accelerate the deployment of storage capacity, which is vital for grid stability and maximizing the value of renewable assets.
The company will present this new offering at the Solar Plus Forum in Berlin on 24–25 November 2026. For more information on LION E-Mobility and its solutions, visit www.lionemobility.com. The original release is available on www.newmediawire.com.
These developments matter because they reflect the broader trend of integrating storage into renewable energy projects, which is crucial for achieving climate goals and ensuring energy security. LION Smart's success in winning multiple projects and its innovative service model could serve as a blueprint for other companies, potentially accelerating the growth of the BESS market in Germany and beyond. As the demand for clean, reliable energy grows, investments in storage infrastructure will be pivotal in shaping a sustainable energy future.
