The Martial Arts History Museum in Glendale, California, will host a special Honor Day on May 9, 2026, recognizing actor and martial artist Sean Kanan for his achievements, contributions, and philanthropic efforts. Kanan is best known for portraying Mike Barnes, the fan-favorite 'Bad Boy' in The Karate Kid Part III, a role he reprised in the Netflix series Cobra Kai, gaining a new generation of fans. He also has a large following for his portrayal of Deacon Sharpe on The Bold and the Beautiful, the most-watched daytime drama worldwide.
According to Michael Matsuda, President of the Martial Arts History Museum, 'Sean Kanan embodies the spirit of martial arts both on and off the mat.' Beyond his screen work, Kanan is a passionate advocate for giving back, supporting causes focused on youth mentorship, wellness, and community empowerment. The Honor Day will feature photo montage videos, clips, a 'This Is Your Life'-type segment, tributes from peers and fans, and an opportunity for guests to meet the honoree in person.
Special guest presenters include Shihan Chris Pellitteri, a 9th-degree black belt and founder of multiple martial arts organizations; Darryl Vidal, a 10th-degree black belt and original The Karate Kid cast member; William Christopher Ford, a 5th-degree black belt who appeared alongside Kanan in The Karate Kid Part III; and Gerard L. Noonan, a 3rd-degree black belt in World Tae Kwon Do Federation and experienced trainer working with law enforcement and martial arts organizations.
In addition, Kanan will donate a signed poster to support the Palisades Fire Residents Coalition, and the first 100 attendees will receive a special gift bag. The event will include a screening of The Real Miyagi at 12 PM, followed by a screening of The Karate Kid Part III at 2 PM, and a Q&A session.
