The Nordex Group has received an order from Swedish renewable energy company OX2 to supply and install 11 N175/6.X turbines for the Urleasca wind farm in Romania, marking a significant step in the country's wind energy expansion. The contract, which includes a 35-year Premium Service agreement, adds 77 MW to Nordex's portfolio in a market where it has contracted more than 500 MW in recent months.
In a parallel transaction, OX2 has sold the ready-to-build Urleasca wind farm to Norwegian renewable energy solutions provider Scatec ASA. OX2 will oversee the construction phase, scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2026, with commissioning expected in the second half of 2028. The wind farm holds a long-term Contract-for-Difference (CfD) with the Romanian State, ensuring stable revenue and underscoring the project's strategic importance.
The Urleasca wind farm is located near the village of Urleasca in Brăila County, approximately 150 kilometers northeast of Bucharest. This region is benefiting from Romania's favorable conditions for wind energy, and the project aligns with the country's goals to increase renewable energy capacity.
“We are delighted to further strengthen our transnational cooperation with OX2 – this time in Romania. The country continues to offer attractive opportunities for the deployment of modern wind energy technology. By combining OX2’s international project development expertise with our latest N175/6.X technology, all companies will deliver efficient and competitive renewable electricity to the Romanian market,” said Slava Feklin, Country Manager Romania and Ukraine of the Nordex Group.
This order highlights the growing importance of Romania as a key market for wind energy in Europe. The country's CfD mechanism provides long-term price certainty, reducing investment risks and attracting international developers. For Nordex, this project reinforces its commitment to the region and its ability to deliver advanced turbine technology that meets market demands. The N175/6.X turbines are part of Nordex's latest generation, designed for low-wind sites, and their deployment in Romania demonstrates the technology's adaptability to diverse conditions.
The sale to Scatec, a major player in renewable energy, further validates the project's viability and attractiveness to investors. With OX2's project development expertise and Scatec's operational capabilities, the Urleasca wind farm is poised to contribute significantly to Romania's renewable energy mix upon completion.
